  • Action Plan for 12th Grade

    • The senior year of high school is a whirlwind of activities and a special and exciting time for students and their families. Unforgettable memories are made, and students begin navigating the next phase of their lives - the college application process. The information below, hopefully, will help you and your student successfully navigate the college admission and financial aid processes.

    • Plan a College Visit

The best way to get a complete picture of a college or university is by visiting it. No matter how thorough and beautiful, publications and websites do not convey a school's true essence. Campus visits will enable you and your child to experience firsthand what a college or university is like. In addition, you and your student will often get a sense of whether a school is a right fit just by visiting.

      Checklist for Scheduling Your Visit

Most colleges and universities post dates for campus tours and visits on their websites. However, some schools required that you reserve a spot, so be sure to review the visitation policy at the school you plan to visit.

      Questions to Ask

Is it possible to sit in on or visit a class?
      Are interviews available on campus?
May I set up a tour of a department I'm interested in?
May I meet with the coaching staff for a personal visit - if interested in playing a sport in college?

      Following Up

During your visit take notes and write down the names of your tour guide, who you met during your visit, etc., and write them a thank you note.  It is also good to write down what you liked about the school and then any questions you acquired but didn't get answered during your visit.
    • Students Meet with College Counselor

Shortly after school starts back in the fall is a perfect time for students to begin meeting with our College Advisor, Mrs. Sellers, plays a vital role in helping students navigate college admission and financial aid. He will help you create a list of colleges to research based on your interests and qualifications. Additionally, help you understand the application requirements, prepare your essay, register for admission tests, etc.

    • Prepare a Calendar

It's beneficial in the college application process to create a calendar containing application deadline dates, scholarship deadline dates, and financial aid deadlines such as the FAFSA deadline.

    • Start Applying

As the academic year unfolds, seniors should submit their applications for admission. It is recommended that students apply to two dream schools and then to several target schools where their academic credentials fall within the average to ensure that the student. The admission process will be fluid for several months after receiving decision news.
